Leak Location

Slab Leak on Water Piping:
Usually on a copper pipe water under a concrete floor. These leaks can cause flooding of under floor heating and cooling ducts. Water damage to walls, flooring and carpeting.

Location is usually done with electronic listening device or thermal temperature sensing unit.

Slab Leak on Drain Piping:
These leaks on usually on a bad joint or a break in the pipe damaged during construction or a result of the foundation settling.

To determine if you have a leak it is necessary to find the point where the main drain
piping exits from under the foundation. The pipe is then plugged ( usually with an
expandable plug ) and the system filled to the highest floor level fixture in the building. The water is observed for a period of time and if the level of water goes down the system has a leak.

The locating of a drain is quite involved, using video cameras, location devices
and pressure testing sections of the system individually until the damaged pipe is found.

Shower Pan Leak:
This is the most common type of leak in concrete floor homes. Water can show up as mold or mildew in the next room sharing a common wall or as water on the floor.

Determination of a shower pan leak is done by plugging the shower drain below the
level of the shower drain fixture ( about 8”below the floor ). The shower is then filled with water up to the threshold. If the level of the water drops then the pan or the
connecting drain fixture is leaking.
